The Evolution of logo design

A client whom I've been contract to do ongoing work with wanted to start out with re-designing his logo for his company. After the initial meeting, I was in charge of coming up with some ideas of where to take the logo. The first image is the starting point, where the clients business is musically and artistically related, but he also wanted a "pirate theme" incorporated. After fearing the skull might be too intense, we steered towards a old style mic. Playing with different ideas to use the mic, and skull together. 

As you can see, with each revision we were able to get closer and closer to the the near final logo. The client enjoyed the idea of a mic, with the subtle shape of the skull. We are close to finishing off this logo, all that remains is some kick ass typography!
